It is a new year!!!

One week from today I start my THIRD year of teaching. I can't believe that I have already made it so far. I still feel like I just finished school and now its been over 2 years. I went in yesterday and kind of got some things ready. I worked on first day of school stuff. I am hoping that now I can start having panic dreams where I have shown up late on the first day and have nothing at all ready and my students are all staring at me and I am frantically trying to figure out what to do. I am hoping that this year is going to be a good one. I am going to be teaching Algebra 1, Extended Algebra (which is the same material as algebra 1 just a lot slower and spread out over 2 years instead of 1) and Advanced Math. I think I am most excited about teaching advanced math because I already know the students and know that they are going to be so good.

Well, hopefully I will be better about writing on here. Hopefully things happen that are funny or exciting and not depressing so I feel like sharing. Wish me luck!

Note of the day

A while ago I was having a pretty bad day. Students were being punks and I was sick of the attitudes. Well, I have this class called TA (Teacher Advisor) that meets once a week. We get a group of kids as freshman and stay being their TA for their whole high school career. Basically we are there to help them with anything they need, check their grades, be their friend and mentor. Things like that. Well, I have seniors and I love them. There are about 12 of them in my TA and we have so much fun. There is a group of 3 boys who are all best friends and I think that if I had them in my regular classes they would drive me crazy but in TA and can let them be crazy and just laugh and have fun with them. But anyways, back to the story...

I was having a bad day and one of these boys from my TA comes in and hands me a note from the office. The note he gave me was one that usually comes for students but this time my name was on it. I opened it up and this is what I found:

And then I looked out the window and there he was with his goofy grin giving me a thumbs up. How could something so simple make my day?

Quote of the Day

I was handing out papers to my class and picked up the wrong amount so I was short and had to go back and get more. I told the 2 boys in the front to just pass everything back and I would come back with theirs. Now, you need to understand what kind of boys these are. Boy #1: Hispanic, Boy #2: Completely and utterly white.

So as I am telling them I don't have enough for them and before they hear I am going to get more Boy #1 spouts off with this:

"Its cause we're black huh?"

Ok, probably completely inappropriate. But, I laughed. I couldn't help it. These two boys are far far from black but yet this is the response I get? Where do these kids come up with this?

Comebacks

"Ms. Limb, you have the best comebacks"

Apparently I have a good comeback when students are giving me excuses and all that good stuff. I credit it to growing up in a 9 member family full of sarcastic people.

Intercom

"Joseph Smith please come to the office. Joseph Smith to the office."

I will never get used to hearing that called over the intercom.

Quote of the Day

As he is walking in to class past me almost every single day.

"Hi Ms. Limb"

"Hi ____"

"Ms. Limb you dropped your pocket" (in a calm very matter of fact way)

And then he just keeps walking. Some days he thinks he got me to look and oh boy does that crack him up.
